Cabinet painting and refinishing in Bloomington, IN

Many older Bloomington kitchens still have their original oak, maple or cherry cabinets. Most of them were built well and are still sound. What looks dated is the color and the finish, and that is the part we change.

If the boxes are solid, refinishing gives you the look of a new kitchen with the cabinets you already have. At the free estimate we look at your doors, frames and hinges and tell you whether your kitchen is a good candidate.

Oak gets one extra coat of primer to fill the dark shadows in its grain. You will still feel the oak texture, but the color comes out solid and even.

1. Protect. We cover floors, counters and appliances with X-board, paper and plastic, so paint only lands where it belongs.
2. Clean. Every surface is washed with warm water and a degreaser to remove cooking oils that keep paint from sticking.
3. Label and remove. Doors and drawer fronts are labeled, taken down and driven to the spray booth at our Indianapolis office in Greenwood.
4. Sand and prime. Each piece is sanded and coated with a bonding primer.
5. Spray the finish. Two coats of 1K waterborne polyurethane go on in the booth for a smooth, factory-style finish.
6. Paint the frames. The cabinet boxes are painted in place in your kitchen.
7. Rehang and walk through. Doors go back up, hinges are adjusted, hardware goes back on, and we walk the kitchen with you.

Because the doors are at our shop while the frames are finished at home, your kitchen stays usable for most of the project. Before we start, take everything out of the cabinets if you can. If that is hard, push everything back at least 4 inches from the front.

No coating lasts forever, even with the best products and process we know. So if your cabinets show wear or a product problem later, we come back and touch them up at no cost for as long as you own the home. On top of that, the labor on your cabinets is warrantied for 5 years. The two coats of 1K waterborne polyurethane are what keep the corners from chipping in daily use.

You can also finish the new look with a few add-ons:

• Crown molding on the upper cabinets
• Shiplap or other custom accents on an island
• New handles and pulls, or your old hardware cleaned and reinstalled
• Soft-close hinges that ease each door shut quietly
